The Humanitarian Reassignment and Deferment Program, run by the Air Force Personnel Center (AFPC), assists active-duty Airmen in resolving severe, short-term problems involving a family member while Airmen continue to meet the needs of the Air Force.
Compassionate action refers to actions taken with the intention of reducing the suffering of others. This begins with ourselves. By resolving our own suffering, we are able to access and act from a space of inner fulfillment which creates a capacity to be present for others.
A compassionate reassignment is a reassignment of a soldier to another duty station prior to his or her scheduled permanent change of station (PCS). It normally occurs in response to a family emergency, hardship, or other situation in which a soldiers presence at another duty station is warranted.
A compassionate reassignment is a permanent (usually for one year) change of duty station based on psychiatric prob- lems in the servicemans family. Its pur- pose is to stabilize the serviceman in a par- ticular area when his presence there is es- sential to the resolution of some acute family problem.
Processing of compassionate requests takes approximately 30 working days to complete. Soldiers should check with their S-1 for status of request. Compassionate actions that involve medical issues will be reviewed by the Office of the Surgeon General and a recommendation forwarded to DA HRC.
