For each combination of teams, the 8 (two teams with 4 varsity swimmers) times for each event are sorted from fastest to slowest, or 1st to 8th place. The top 7 places score the following points for their team with 1st to 7th place scoring 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively.
Each score is still on a 0-10.0 point scale, but there are now three categories and each are weighted differently: execution, artistic impression and difficulty. Each routine is usually judged by a panel of five judges.
We recommend brands and products like Garmin Swim, Samsung GearSport, Sony SmartWatch and Swimovate PoolmatePlus to name a few. With all of them, you can start the watch when you begin your workout, pause it in between sets and select whether you are doing a stroke, kick or drill.
The highest and lowest of the scores awarded in each category, Technical Merit and Artistic Impression, are canceled and the remaining scores are averaged. Technical Merit total is multiplied by six (6) and the Artistic Impression score by four (4). The total of these two equals the routine score.
PLACE POINTS 1st place: 6 points. 2nd place: 4 points. 3rd place: 3 points. 4th place: 2 points. 5th place: 1 point.
