The CWB is the authorized national body for the International Institute of Welding (IIW) , providing several levels of internationally recognized certifications and qualifications for welding professionals. Canada has a unique certification system that uses the CWB as a third-party certifier.
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, a prestigious accreditation in the welding industry, mandates candidates pass three examsParts A, B, and Ceach assessing different welding knowledge and skills areas. Candidates must achieve a minimum score of 72% on each exam part to obtain the CWI credential.
You dont need to apply to receive the advanced payments. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will determine your eligibility when you file your income tax and benefit return. If youre entitled to a CWB amount on line 45300 of your income tax and benefit return, the CRA will automatically send you payments.
As mentioned above, not all states require welders to have a license or certification. Still, getting certified is strongly recommended for several reasons. For one thing, it shows potential employers and clients that you are a professional and you know what youre doing.
Students must fill out a registration, waiver release and CWB testing form based on their testing needs; fees will be associated. The cost is $180 per test. Payment of course fees is required within 72 hours before the course start date.

All welders working for a certified company must be qualified by the CWB Group and, for most qualifications, retested every two years. This is a practical test administered by a CWB representative at a CWB Accredited Test Centre.
