Maximum CRSC Pay Rate The maximum CRSC payment a veteran can receive is limited to the amount of retired pay that is reduced due to receiving VA disability compensation. If the entire retired pay is offset by VA compensation, the CRSC payment will be equal to the full amount of retired pay that was reduced.
The 2004 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) CRSC qualifying criteria is limited to active and reserve retirees with 20 qualifying years who have a VA rated disability at 10% or more and 20 or more years of service are eligible for this benefit.
To be sure you get the full amount of your back payments, you must file your CRSC claim within 6 years of any VA rating decision or the date you become entitled to retired pay, whichever comes first. If you file your claim after this 6-year limit, you can only get up to 6 years worth of any payments due to you.
Combat-Related Special Compensation is a very specific benefit from your service, not the VA, that compensates you for combat-related injuries, only if you retire. Someone can have injuries they can prove, but if they didnt retire CRSC is not something they can apply for.
