Four other ships that are important for your recruit are the USS Marlinespike, the USS Chief, the USS Wisconsin, and the USS Trayer. The USS Marlinespike is where recruits learn basic seamanship, line-handling, shipboard watch and teamwork.
The majority of these personnel are awaiting their administrative discharge from the Navy. Those who are being processed for separation will be retained at Ship 17. So when you hear or see the name Ship 17, know that it pertains to where your recruit is being housed.
Navy boot camp lasts 9 weeks. The first two weeks of training are the most challenging because youll be shifting your perspective from civilian to Sailor and training for several hours each day.
Its the future fleet group, its for people on medical hold awaiting waivers or people waiting to be determined if they are allowed to stay in the navy if something on their background check came back bad. It isnt too bad there. I was only there for a week but some are there for months.
Phone calls are generally scheduled every couple of weeks. The first call is on Night of Arrival (once safely at RTC), this is when Recruits will be given an opportunity to share this letter with family and friends.
