As of January 31, 2022, applications are no longer being accepted for KHCs Housing Choice Voucher (HCV, also known as Section 8) Waiting List. ​KHC now uses HCV RENTCaf for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), Project-Based Voucher, and Moderate Rehabilitation programs.
Your rent payment is based on your income. The voucher will pay anything above 30% of your adjusted monthly income up to an established limit.
Eligibility. Youre eligible for public housing if you earn 80 percent or less of the area median income.
Important: Massachusetts residents cant apply to Section 8 online right now. You will need to mail in your application or take it to a Regional Administering Agency in person. You can use some vouchers anywhere as long as the unit meets health and safety standards (tenant-based or mobile vouchers).
Depending on your application status, the points you receive when applying for housing, and the preferences you qualify for, the waiting list can take anywhere from one year to five years.
Subsidy = All that Section 8 can pay for any chosen by a tenant. TTP = Total Tenant Payment (30% of tenants monthly income). Total Subsidy = The Section 8 office will take the lower of the Payment Standard or the gross rent and subtract the Tenants 30% of their adjusted income. Gross Rent = Rent plus utility allowance.
Public Housing and Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) To apply for either type of help, visit your local Public Housing Agency (PHA). Some PHAs have long waiting lists, so you may want to apply at more than one PHA. Your PHA can also give you a list of locations at which your voucher can be used.
