Suitable Attire: Any person approved to ride along is required to be suitably dressed in t-shirt, collared shirt, blouse or jacket, jeans or slacks and closed toe shoes. Sandals, tank tops, skirts, shorts and ripped or torn blue jeans are not permitted. Hats and ball caps will not be worn in the police vehicle.
The Ride Along Program allows citizens to periodically accompany officers to observe patrol activities. The practice is beneficial to both citizens and officers who participate in the program. The program provides officers the opportunity to explain the hows and whys of police work.
Ride-alongs are offered by many police departments around the world. There is a minimum age to participate in a ride-along. Depending on the department, it is often somewhere between the ages of 12 and 18. When participation of those under 18 is permitted, consent from a parent or legal guardian is required.
