All Military Exempt License Plates are available for passenger cars, trucks that do not exceed 16,000 pounds empty weight, noncommercial or recreation vehicles, motor homes, and motorcycles. First sets of these license plates are exempt from taxes and fees at the time of issuance and at each renewal.
Under Colorado law, eligible veterans do not pay vehicle ownership taxes or license fees on their first set of Disabled Veteran, Handicap Disabled Veteran, Former Prisoner of War, Purple Heart, Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor license plates. Sales tax does still apply. Additional sets may be obtained at a cost.
The Independence Pass allows honorably discharged Colorado resident veterans with service-connected disabilities to: Obtain a free Independence Pass each year as long as they remain residents. Transfer the pass between vehicles, allowing the Independence Pass holder and others in the same vehicle to enter the park.
