A Certificate of Sponsorship is a self-certifying electronic document that the sponsoring employer issues to the worker to enable them to apply for a visa and be onboarded into the organisation. Sponsors must assign a Certificate of Sponsorship to every foreign national they employ.
The confirmation sponsor represents a point of reference, a role model in life, a safe harbour you can always turn to for help. This is why it's tradition for the confirmand to thank their sponsor with a special gift on the day of the ceremony.
Sponsors cannot be the mother or father of the Confirmation Candidate. Each Confirmation Candidate should only choose one sponsor. When you were born, your parents chose your name. They may have chosen your name in honor of a special person in their lives: a grandparent, aunt or uncle, or close friend.
Because of the deep connection between the two sacraments, the Church recommends that the candidate's baptismal godparents be considered as Confirmation sponsors.
The Sacrament of Confirmation requires the candidate to choose a person to be their sponsor. This person cannot be their parent, must be at least 16 years of age and a confirmed Catholic who is a witness to the faith. As Confirmation is linked to Baptism, ideally the sponsor would be one of your child's godparents.
