Score is valid for 7 years. The USMLE Step 1 is the first in the series of three USMLE exams that candidates must pass in order to qualify for medical licensure in the United States. It is a one-day computer exam taken by medical students at the end of completed second year of medical school.

Time Limit for Completing Licensing Examination Sequence. Must pass all Steps of the USMLE within 7 years from the date of first passing any Step of the exam. Must pass Step 3 within 4 years of the first attempt at Step 3 or must complete 1 year of post-graduate training before making additional attempts at Step 3.
Generally speaking, however, a USMLE® Step 1 score between 230 and 245 is considered a good and a score between 245 and 255 is considered very good.
You can retake USMLE Step 1 up to six times if you've failed. You can take Step 1 a maximum of three times within a span of 12 months. Your fourth attempt and any beyond that must be at least 12 months after your first attempt. Also, they must be at least six months after your third attempt.

Score reports are issued in electronic format only and can be accessed via ECFMG's on-line services. Once your score report has been issued, ECFMG will send a notification to the e-mail address in your ECFMG record.
