A fragmentary order (FRAGORD) informs units that one or more elements of the base order have changed. Once an OPORD is given, the situation may change before the mission begins, or, during the operation the situation may change so that the base order must be modified.
FIVE PARAGRAPH ORDER FORMAT A five-paragraph order gives subordinates the essential information needed to carry out the operation. The order converts the leader's plan into action, gives direction to the efforts of his unit, and provides specific instructions to subordinate elements.
The five paragraph order consists of Situation, Mission, Execution, Service and Support and Command and Signal (Figure 1).
Format. OPORD [sequential order number and fiscal year] [code name] - [issuing headquarters] (place the overall security classification and an abbreviated title at the top of the second and any following pages.)

FIVE PARAGRAPH ORDER FORMAT A five-paragraph order gives subordinates the essential information needed to carry out the operation. The order converts the leader's plan into action, gives direction to the efforts of his unit, and provides specific instructions to subordinate elements.
An OPORD is formatted to organize an operation into five easily understood paragraphs: Situation, Mission, Execution, Sustainment (formerly Service and Support, currently referred to as Admin & Logistics by the US Marine Corps), and Command and Control. Higher echelon's OPORDs often contain extensive details.
Task Organization: States how the unit is organized for the operation and gives who is the main effort. The leader sufficiently weighs the main effort for each mission (for example, machine guns and antiarmor weapons) to ensure success.
The intent statement is mandatory for all OPORDs. Key tasks are tasks that must be performed by the force, or conditions that must be met in order for the unit to achieve the stated purpose.
Often referred to as a FRAGO, a Fragmentary Order is an abbreviated form of an OPORD. Rather than recreate a new OPORD every time their is a mission to complete, units can simply publish a FRAGO to publish any changes to the original OPORD.
