The P-GBI is an adaptation of the GBI, consisting of 73 Likert scale items rated on a scale from 0 (Never or Hardly Ever) to 3 (Very often or Almost Constantly). It consists of two scales: a depressive symptoms (46 items) and a hypomanic/biphasic (mixed) symptoms (28 items).
The 7 Up 7 Down Inventory (7U7D) is a 14-item scale carved from the GBI that captures both hypomanic/biphasic as well as depression dimensions (Youngstrom, Murray, Johnson, Findling, 2013).
The General Behaviour Inventory-Revised (GBI-R) is a 73-item self-report tool designed to assess bipolar disorder (Depue et al., 1989). It measures the frequency, intensity, and duration of symptoms associated with bipolar disorder type I and II, as well as cyclothymia.
Note that the scale is also sensitive to subsyndromal tendencies or behaviors, which can help identify those who may be at risk of developing bipolar disorder or show early symptoms, but do not yet meet diagnostic criteria. To obtain an overall score, sum the points (from 0-3) for each of the 73 items.
