A preserved Pension is a term used to define a pension from on Occupational Pension Scheme. Provided you have met the eligibility requirements, this is maintained after you leave employment. The Preserved Pension is then payable at the Schemes pension age.
Once you have notified your employer, they will give you the retirement application form AW8. You must complete parts 6 to 14 of this form. You must then return the form to your employer for them to complete parts 1 to 5. Your employer will then submit your application to NHS Pensions on your behalf.
Submit application. You should claim your pension from DBS Veterans UK approximately 3 to 6 months before it is due to come into payment, by completing AFPS Form 8 and sending a signed copy by post to: Veterans UK, Process Team MP 335, Kentigern House, 65 Brown Street, Glasgow G2 8EX.
Deferred/preserved pensions may be transferred out. Once in payment, they may not be transferred out. Those who serve more than 3 months but less than 2 years have 6 months from leaving the Armed Forces to apply for the pension value to be transferred to another Defined Benefit (DB) scheme.

Under the new AFPS 15 the term was changed to deferred. If you left service with a preserved entitlement before 6 April 2006, the pension is payable at age 60.
