The handicap placard is valid for up to 5 years and cannot be renewed online. There are no fees for obtaining a handicap parking permit, but vehicle plates cost $28.75. Temporary permits are valid for six months, while permanent permits are for long-lasting disabilities.
Disabled Vehicle means any motor vehicle that is temporarily or permanently inoperative as a result of a collision or accident, due to wear and tear or mechanical failure, or due to any other cause.
DOHMH will review your application and supporting medical documentation. If DOHMH approves your application, NYC DOT will issue you a permit. If DOHMH denies your application, NYC DOT will send you a denial letter with an explanation of the appeal process. The entire application process could take up to 90 days.
