What Is a Junior License? A junior license may be obtained by those under the age of 18 who have completed 65 hours behind the wheel with a learners permit (including 10 hours of night driving and 5 hours of bad-weather driving), as well as the skills test for a junior license.

In Pennsylvania, drivers 65 and older can opt for a two-year renewal period instead of the standard four years. Illinois shortens the renewal period to two years for drivers aged 81-86, and to one year for drivers aged 87 and older.
