Adobe RGB (1998) color image encoding In an ICC-based color-management system, color profiles are created for each device, so that the colors in an image can be modified throughout the workflow to compensate for the differences in each supported device.
My advice is to use Adobe RGB 1998 if you normally work with 16-bit images, and sRGB if you normally work with 8-bit images. Even if you may not always use the extra colors, you never want to eliminate them as a possibility for those images which require them.
Using Adobe RGB is one of the leading causes of colors not matching between monitor and print. sRGB is the worlds default color space. Use it and everything looks great everywhere, all the time. Adobe RGB should never be used unless you really know what youre doing and do all your printing yourself.
For Professional Print Work: Adobe RGB is preferable if you need a wider color range and are working in a controlled environment where you can manage color profiles effectively. In summary, if your work is intended for the web or general consumption, stick with sRGB.
Two of the most commonly used ICC profiles for RGB images are Adobe RGB (1998) and sRGB IEC61966-2.1. The Adobe RGB (1998) color space has a larger color gamut than the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 color space, but you may be surprised to see that they share many similarities.
