HUD handles complaints in several categories: Housing discrimination: Federal law prohibits housing discrimination based on your race, color, national origin, religion, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), family status, or disability.
It is illegal to discriminate in the sale or rental of housing, including against individuals seeking a mortgage or housing assistance, or in other housing-related activities. The Fair Housing Act prohibits this discrimination because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, and disability.
To be eligible for the program, a familys gross annual income must be below 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI) in Los Angeles County. Seventy-five percent of new admissions must have gross annual incomes at or below 30% of the AMI. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) determines the AMI yearly.
