Is the MCAT required? No, the MCAT is not an admissions requirement for NOSM Universitys UME Program.
In our meta ranking of 112 university rankings Northern Ontario School of Medicine ranks #2 among universities in Thunder Bay and #55 among universities in Canada.
The Northern Ontario School of Medicine was originally created as a partnership between Laurentian University in Sudbury and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, before being made a standalone university in April 2022.
Acceptance to all of them is highly competitive and very selective. The acceptance rate for NOSM Universitys MD program is currently three to four per cent. Thats because we receive roughly 2,000 applications for only 74 spots that are split between our Sudbury and Thunder Bay locations.
Ontario has 6 medical schools, all of which offer competitive MD programs that are not easy to gain admission into. All of them have overall acceptance rates of less than 10%, which means out of 100 students who apply, 10 or fewer students actually matriculate every year.
