Unlike SSI, CAPI does not confer automatic Medi-Cal eligibility, although individuals can apply separately for Medi-Cal. The eligibility requirements for CAPI are the same as for SSI, except for the immigrant status requirements.
To be eligible for CAPI, you must meet all of the following eligibility requirements: Be a California resident; Be age 65 or over, blind, or disabled; Be a non-citizen and meet the immigration status criteria in effect for SSI/SSP as of 08/21/96; Be ineligible for SSI/SSP solely due to your immigration status.
CAPI is a 100 percent state-funded program designed to provide monthly cash benefits to aged, blind, and disabled non-citizens who are ineligible for Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP) solely due to their immigration status.
