Generally, a proof load test is done by placing force for a particular amount of time, typically anywhere from 1.1 to 1.5 times of the designated load of the structure or hardware being tested. In order to verify loads, certified weights or a load indicating device such as dynamometer or load cell must be used.
Test loads must not be more than 125% of the manufacturers rated load unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer. The resulting load rating for the hoist must not be more than 80% of the maximum load sustained during the test.
