How long does an apprentice need to retain their W 2 forms after passing the journeyman exam?

Apprentices must retain all W-2 records demonstrating their employment throughout their apprenticeship as well as for a period of at least seven years after obtaining a journeyman license. Apprentices may not act as independent contractors and will not be credited for time performed as such.

A journeyman level qualification is obtained by completing a formal apprenticeship. An apprenticeship is learning a skilled trade under the supervision of an advanced tradesperson. An apprentice is a trainee who is becoming formally trained and qualified in a particular type of trade.
