The Gender Inclusive Living Experience (GILE) is one of several gender-inclusive housing options offered at the University of Michigan. GILE is intended to be a safe, inclusive, comfortable and supportive community for people of all gender identities and expressions.
Gender-inclusive housing allows for students to request a roommate of any gender identity/expressions. Single students are matched with roommates based on gender preferences identified in the Graduate and Family Housing Application.
If you have verifiable medical needs, extreme financial need, or other extenuating circumstances for a housing exception, please complete the exception form and you will be emailed further instructions. For medical needs, youll need to work with your licensed treating physician to submit required documentation.
Gender-inclusive housing means that, in select spaces, students from all gender identities and expressions may choose to live together. Housing assignments for students are guided by the following values: Respect for an affirmation of the students gender identity and/or expression.
