The Corps of Cadets is a student-led, military-style organization that was established with the university in 1876. While participation was originally mandatory, it became voluntary in 1965. The unique spirit and traditions that make Texas AM so special are deeply rooted in the Corps of Cadets experience.
The purpose of the Corps of Cadets is to develop well-educated leaders of character who embody the Corps values of honor, integrity, discipline, respect, courage and selfless service. The Corps prepares cadets to become top leaders in the public, private, and military sectors.
Keepers of the Spirit: The Corps of Cadets is the oldest student organization on campus, having been established with Texas AM in 1876. Many of Texas AMs most cherished traditions, including Muster, Silver Taps and Midnight Yell, rely on the Corps of Cadets.
