Permissible work hours for 14- and 15-year-olds are: 3 hours on a school day; 18 hours in a school week; 8 hours on a non-school day; 40 hours in a non-school week; and. between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., except from June 1 through Labor Day, when nighttime work hours are extended to 9 p.m.
Child Labor Laws Children can work starting at 14 years old, but until they are 16, they can only work 3 hours per day, 18 hours per week, and no later than 7 pm during the school year or 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, and no later than 9 pm when school is out.
The state of Tennessee does not require work permits. The minor needs to provide the prospective employer with a copy one of the following documents as proof of age; birth certificate, driver's license, state issued ID, or a copy of their passport.
In Tennessee, children cannot work until age 14. How much and how long they can work differs by age and whether school is in session. In some cases, parental consent forms are also required before minors can be hired for employment.
