The National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS) is a voluntary data collection system that gathers information from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico about reports of child abuse and neglect. NCANDS was established in response to the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act of 1988.
Almost all States maintain a statewide central registry, which is a centralized database of child abuse and neglect investigation records. In some States, the individual State agencies that received the reports of suspected abuse or neglect are required to maintain these records.
Call Centralized Intake at 800-222-8000 (nationwide) or 601-432-4570 if: The situation you are reporting is an emergency; You prefer to remain anonymous; You have insufficient data to complete the required fields using the online reporting system; or.
