Today, MGH is a large, urban, full-service community teaching hospital, providing comprehensive care to a diverse population of 400,000 living within its primary catchment area, from Midland Avenue in the east to Bayview Avenue in the west and north from Lake Ontario to Eglinton Avenue.
Michaels story And so, many years later in 2015, Berna Garron and her husband, Myron, made good on her promise to their son by making a commitment of $50 million to the hospital where Michael was born. In Michaels honour, the hospital was renamed from Toronto East General Hospital to Michael Garron Hospital.
Michael Garron Hospital began operations in 1929 as Toronto East General Hospital when it opened as a 110-bed general hospital. A new wing was built approximately every decade.
