Training Requirements: Complete a minimum of 24 CPD hours in ADHD Assessment and Treatment including hours specific to: Complete a minimum of 3 CPD hours in introductory psychopharmacology. Complete a minimum of 3 CPD hours in ADHD in the community (such as classroom management or workplace strategies).
For a medical diagnosis of ADHD, you will need to speak to your GP, and they will then decide whether to refer you to a psychiatrist for a full assessment. Waiting lists for assessment via the NHS can be long (on average 2 years) so you can invoke your Right to Choose.
Healthcare providers use the guidelines in the American Psychiatric Associations Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fifth edition (DSM-5),2 to help diagnose ADHD. This diagnostic standard helps ensure that people are appropriately diagnosed and treated for ADHD.
