How to get a flag removed in the Army?

Talk with your Commander. The CDR is the only one with the authority to initiate or remove a flag. Your CDR needs to submit a DA 268 along with the DA 705 and 5500 if applicable to your S-1. Your E-8 has no authority to refuse to remove your flag. You should also receive a 4856 regarding the flag removal.

Can you extend while flagged?

Favorable actions that are prohibited when a Solider is flagged may include: promotion or re-evaluation for promotion; awards and decorations; bonus payments; re-enlistment and/or extension; reassignment; attendance to military or civilian schools and retirement.

How long does being flagged last?

A flag will remain in place until the commander determines that the service member is no longer in an unfavorable status. This could take a few days or several months, depending on the circumstances. In at least one example, multiple Soldiers remained flagged for more than a year.

How long does the Army have to flag you?

A flag is emplaced during some type of disciplinary or administrative action until that action is concluded. A flag should be initiated (DA Form 268) within three working days after identification of the Soldiers unfavorable status (i.e. APFT failure).

What does suspension of favorable personnel action mean?

PERSONNEL ACTIONS. FLAGS A Flag is an administrative tool that prevents a Soldier from receiving certain favorable actions while in an unfavorable status (not in good standing).
