Certificate of Eligibility The COE verifies to the lender that you are eligible for a VA-backed loan. This page describes the evidence you submit to verify your eligibility for a VA home loan and how to submit the evidence and obtain a COE. The evidence you need depends on the nature of your eligibility.
If you cannot access myPay and you need a hard copy RAS mailed to you, you can call the Retired and Annuitant Pay Customer Care Center at 800-321-1080. Another avenue is using what is called a Verification of Pay letter, which DFAS also offers military retirees on the myPay platform.
Certificate of Eligibility The COE is primarily used in applying for a VA or CalVet Home Loan. After establishing that you are eligible, you will need a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for the loan application. The COE verifies to the lender that you are eligible for a VA-backed loan.
You can request a COE with an entitlement restoration online. You can also ask your lender to submit an online application for you, or you can fill out a Request for a Certificate of Eligibility (VA Form 26-1880) and send it to the VA address listed on the form.
The initial COE application process includes a firearms eligibility criminal background check and issuance of a certificate, which is valid for one year. Thereafter, the COE must be renewed annually. A COE can be revoked, at anytime, if the COE holder becomes prohibited from owning/possessing firearms and ammunition.
