As most Soldiers know, SHARP stands for the Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Prevention. This means that if a Soldier is under investigation for a SHARP complaint, it could be either a sexual harassment allegation or a sexual assault allegation.
There is a 60 day time limit in filing a Formal Complaint from when the allegation(s) occurred or when you first learned of the allegations.
All formal complaints will be reported within 72 hours to the first General Courts-Martial Convening Authority (GCMCA) in the Chain of Command. A progress report must be provided to the GCMCA authority 21 days after the date on which the investigation commenced and 14 days thereafter until completion.
The alleged discrimination must be on the basis of race, color, sex (to include sexual harassment, pregnancy, transgender, and gender identity), disability, age (40 or older), sexual orientation, national origin, religion, or genetic information.
Complainants should be informed that if he or she chooses to file and informal complaint and the issue is not resolved through the informal channels that they may file a formal complaint. b. Formal complaint is one that a complainant files in writing and swears to the accuracy of the information.

Formal Complaint Process Complaints, except those filed with the Inspector General (IG), must be acted upon within five calendar days. The commander can conduct a commanders inquiry or appoint an investigation officer to conduct an AR 15-6 investigation within 30 days (3 MUTA-4(90DAYS) for USAR.
