How to enter MMSI number?

To enter the MMSI number, follow these instructions: Power ON the VHF Radio. Press the Menu button. Select DSC. Select My MMSI. For each number in the sequence, turn the channel knob clockwise to increase the number, and counter-clockwise to decrease the number. Select Accept once the MMSI number has been entered correctly.

Can two vessels have the same MMSI number?

MMSIs can be shared by vessels. Vessel names are not required to be unique. Information is entered into the AIS transponder by a technician may be incorrect due to mistakes, intentional spoofing, or message corruption.

How do I register my MMSI number?

To gain an MMSI for your boat you need to apply to AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) our national maritime safety regulator. Once issued you need to the allocated MMSI 9 digit number into your marine radio or AIS to activate their respective safety functions.

BoatUS is responsible for relaying the MMSI registration information to the U.S. Coast Guard for search and rescue purposes. MMSI numbers are free for BoatUS Members or $25 for non-Members.
