CMAs (AAMA) must redocHub the CMA (AAMA) credential every 5 years.
Once certified, plan on getting re-certified every 3 to 5 years. Not only is re-certification necessary to maintain your credential and position as a professional medical assistant, but it also helps you stay up-to-date so you can bring the most to the job.
AAMA CEU credit minimum: At least 30 of the required 60 recertification points must be accumulated from AAMA approved continuing education units (CEUs). If desired, all 60 points may be AAMA CEUs.

Candidates who graduate from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program that was accredited at any time during the students enrollment, or who graduated within the 36 months prior to the program becoming CAAHEP or ABHES accredited, are eligible to apply for the CMA (AAMA) Certification Exam under Category 1 or 2.
To achieve recertification, you must earn 60 CEUs during the five-year period preceding your application.
Recipients of the credential must redocHub every 5 years by retaking the certification exam or acquiring 60 continuing education units (CEUs) in administrative, clinical, or general categories.
Required Recertification Points A minimum of 10 points is required in each of the general, administrative, and clinical content areas. (See Accepted Areas of Content.) The remaining 30 points may be accumulated in any of the three content areas.
Required Recertification Points AAMA CEUs: You must get at least 30 or, if desired, all 60 of your recertification points from CEUs that are provided directly through the AAMA, such as in the e-Learning center, AAMA self-study courses, CMA Today CE articles, or participation in the AAMA National Conference.
