Minnesota Statute 84.922 requires that all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), off road vehicles (ORVs) and off highway motorcycles (OHMs) owned by Minnesota residents must be registered unless exempt. A public use ATV, ORV or OHM registration is valid for three years from the year of issuance.
If you purchase a used OHV in Minnesota, you must register it in your name within 15 days for ATVs and OHMs and 30 days for ORVs. You must receive a bill of sale from the previous owner including the year, make, model and vehicle ID number (VIN) of the OHV as well as the sellers printed name and signature.
Once the seller receives the funds for the ATV, they can put together the required paperwork: Bill of sale needs to be signed by the seller and buyer. ATVs title signed over to buyer. Any maintenance records.
The necessary documentation for acquiring an ATV title includes a bill of sale, the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin, and a VIN check to verify the vehicles authenticity and ensure it hasnt been reported stolen.
All sellers must complete and sign the title in the sellers section on the front of the title. All buyers must complete and sign the buyers section (next to the sellers section) as well as complete and sign the Application for Title by Buyer section.
