Para Transpo is a shared-ride, book-in-advance, public transit service. The service is open to eligible customers who are unable to take conventional transit (buses and O-Train) some or all of the time due to a disability. It is funded by the City of Ottawa and administered by OC Transpo.
Example: You use a wheelchair but the nearest bus stop is separated from you by stairs. You are eligible for paratransit because you cannot reach the bus stop. Reminder: Even if you are eligible for paratransit, you do not have to ride paratransit for all trips.
The fine for not paying the fare is $260. OC Transpo raised $353,105.20 in 2024 from fare enforcement, revenue that will go back into funding transit operations; however, this only accounts for 41 per cent of all tickets issued.
To ride, just tap your one-day DayPass or multi-day pass at the fare gate or show it to the operator as you board the bus. A one-day DayPass is valid for unlimited travel all day, for one person. On weekends and specified holidays, use a one-day DayPass as a 2-for-1 DayPass!
ParaPay is a new card-free system that lets you pre-pay your Para Transpo fares. Simply open your account, load money or a monthly pass, then book your trips and ride. No need to carry cash, tickets or a Presto card. ParaPay cannot be used to pay for trips on OC Transpo buses or the O-Train.
