Children under the age of 18 need the permission of both parents to travel alone or with just one parent. Depending on the type of trip, there are other rules to follow to help everything go smoothly.
Children ages 12-15 years are not required to travel as unaccompanied minors, but the service is optional. Children under 5 years of age for domestic flights and 6 years of age for international flights are not allowed to travel unless accompanied by an adult who is at least 15 years old.
If your child is traveling alone by air, the airline may require you to submit an unaccompanied minor form and pay a fee for unaccompanied minor service. This service provides an airline employee escort for your child at the airport and on board the plane.
To avail of the UM Service, the parent/guardian must: Complete the Passenger Handling Form. Please fill this out at least 24 hours before your flight. Pay for the Unaccompanied Minor Fee; Endorse the child at the check-in counter. Stay at the airport until the childs flight has departed.
Youll need to fill out an unaccompanied minor form and any necessary Customs and Immigration documents for the day of departure. This form must remain with your child during their journey. At check-in, parents / guardians will also need to provide: A birth certificate or passport as proof of the childs age.

Anyone under the age of 18 will need the consent of their parent or legal guardian if they want to travel. Specifically, in order to pass through border security and go anywhere abroad, children must bring a travel consent form to prove that their guardian has approved for them to travel alone, or with someone else.
Infants (under 2 years) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or an accompanying passenger who is at least 15 years old. Passengers aged 12 years or above may travel alone (subject to meeting our Independent Traveller Requirements).
A child is a passenger aged between 2 and 11 years inclusive. An infant is a passenger aged up to 23 months inclusive. If your child turns 12, or your infant turns 2, after travel has commenced, Qantas will allow you to use the ticket at the reduced fare within its validity.
A Child Travel Consent Form is required where a minor child under the age of 18 is traveling internationally without both parents present.
Some airlines permit this for kids as young as 12. When a child has docHubed this minimum age for traveling alone without unaccompanied-minor procedures, the airline does not require evidence of parental permission to travel alone. If the child has a passport, he or she can even travel internationally.
