Can I take the CST exam online?

The CST exam is offered in both Paper and Online formats.

How many times can you take the CST exam?

Candidates may only test three times during one calendar year. Proof of graduation is kept on file, but an application and payment must be submitted each time you wish to test.

How long is a CST good for?

Certified Surgical Technologists (CST) must earn 30 CE credits, including 4 defined as live, before their two-year cycle expires to renew their credential. Certified Surgical First Assistants (CSFA) must earn 38 CE credits, including 8 defined as live, before their two-year cycle expires to renew their credential.

How many points do you need to pass the CST exam?

The passing score is the minimum number of questions that must be answered correctly. The current passing score on the CST examination is 98 of the 150 scored questions (recently lowered from 102). Score reports are provided to all candidates who take the examination.

What happens if I let my CST expire?

Any CST, CSFA, or CST/CSFA who wishes to renew more than 90 days after expiration, or who did not earn the required credits during their cycle must retake the certification examination and pay the fee for renewal by examination, which is $399 for current AST members or $499 for non-members.
