REQUEST a VEIP EXTENSION - A VEIP extension provides you with some additional time to have your vehicle tested. To request an extension on the myMVA eServices, you must have the vehicle title number and the current vehicle tag number.
Vehicles emissions are analyzed while the engine is at idle. The idle test is more appropriate for older model cars and heavy duty vehicles because of their vehicle design. If the OBD check engine or similar warning lights are lit on the dashboard, the vehicle will fail the OBD test.
The owner(s) must submit original receipts or invoices indicating the minimum repair cost of $450.00 has been spent on emissions related repairs. The documentation must be submitted at a VEIP station to process the waiver. A waiver will be issued for two years from the original assigned test date.
Submit the completed VEIP request form electronically through the Maryland MVA website or mail it to VEIP, Motor Vehicle Administration, 6601 Ritchie Highway NE, Glen Burnie, MD 21062. Ensure to include your vehicles title number and contact information. For quicker processing, electronic submissions are recommended.
MVA does not offer extensions on temporary tags and you cannot get another set of temporary tags.

There is a $14 fee for the VEIP test. If a customer uses a self-service kiosk, the fee is reduced to $10. A $15 late fee is assessed after the testing due date has passed. An additional $15 will be assessed every four weeks thereafter if the vehicle continues to be late for testing.
You may take your vehicle to be inspected at any time, without an inspection notice. If you choose to have your vehicle inspected outside of your normal testing cycle, the test is considered to be either a voluntary or unscheduled test, depending upon the circumstances.
