NYCHA uses your recertification documents to determine your household income. To go from monthly income to yearly (such as for Social Security award letters), NYCHA multiplies your monthly income by 12. For weekly paystubs, NYCHA multiplies your weekly income by 52.
We cannot expedite an application at the request of an individual or third party. Application selection is based on priority and original application date.
Eligibility Requirements Age: The head of household must be 18 or older to live in public housing. Income: Households must be receiving some source of income (i.e. employment, public assistance, or SSI) that does not exceed NYCHAs income limits.
NYCHA applications are assigned a priority code based upon the information provided, and placed on the Housing Authoritys preliminary waiting list for an eligibility interview. You should receive an acknowledgement letter from NYCHA within 30 days of receiving your application.
You MIGHT be rejected if the background check reveals Drug-related crimes; Violent crimes; or Other crimes that could threaten the health, safety, or right to peaceful enjoyment of the building by other residents or PHA employees. The PHA will look at arrests and convictions that occurred within the past 5 years.
