Virginia Military Institute has an acceptance rate of 82%. Half the applicants admitted to VMI who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1040 and 1270 or an ACT score of 22 and 28. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.
All members of the Corps of Cadets are required to participate in one of the ROTC leadership programs for completion of their degree. VMI is among the very few colleges that offer ROTC options in five of the United States military services Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force.
Significant financial support is available through VMIs ROTC program. Incoming scholarship cadets who maintain satisfactory academic and disciplinary standing may receive an annual stipend. These scholarships cover tuition and may also include allowances for books and fees and living expenses.
VMI is a military college, but cadets arent required to serve in the military unless theyre part of an ROTC scholarship program or have a service obligation. Many cadets do choose to commission, but its not mandatory. VMI prepares cadets for leadership roles in both military and civilian careers.
Unfortunately, the subsequent passing of the Republic Act No. 9163 otherwise known as the National Service Page 2 Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001 made ROTC optional and voluntary.
