You are considered a Large Quantity Generator (LQG) if you generate 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) or more of non-acute hazardous waste or more than 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of acutely hazardous waste per calendar month.
LQG facilities must prepare and retain a written contingency plan that describes the actions facility personnel must take in response to fires, explosions, or releases of hazardous waste to the environment.
For comparison, small generators can power 20,000 watts (20 kW), large generators can power about 100,000 watts (100 kW), and extra-large generators can power 240,000 watts (240 kW) and higher.
This fact sheet explains the rules for large quantity generators (LQGs) of hazardous waste, which must comply with the full set of federal hazardous waste regulations. You are considered an LQG if you generate per calendar month: More than 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg) of hazardous waste.
SQGs: These generators produce more than 100 kilograms (under 220 pounds) but less than 1,000 kilograms (under 2,200 pounds) of hazardous waste per month. LQGs: Facilities generate 1,000 kilograms (or more) of hazardous waste per monthor in excess of one kilogram monthly of acutely hazardous waste.
