High School Community Service Community Work Hours Service hours are required for the Bright Futures Awards: Florida Academic Award requires 100 hours; Florida Medallion Award requires 75 hours; Gold Seal Vocational requires 30 hours; Gold Seal CAPE Scholars Award requires 30 hours.
Community service hours are not a graduation requirement for a Standard High School Diploma. Community service hours ARE required in order to be eligible for Bright Futures Scholarships. For the Florida Academic Scholars you will need 100 hours and for the Florida Medallion Scholars you will need 75 hours.
Some states require a high school service requirement, some require credit towards graduation with service-learning programs - either a course or a certain amount of hours qualify as a credit, and other states require certain districts to determine service requirements for high school students.
In most cases, students who havent completed mandated volunteer hours lack the academic credits or grades to graduate.
