According to the ADA, fares charged for paratransit services cannot exceed twice the fare of a comparable fixed-route service it compliments. Within that stipulation, however, there are a wide range of fare structures employed by agencies across the country.
Conditional eligibility provides paratransit service on some, but not all, trips. A rider is granted conditional eligibility when they may reasonably be expected to make some trips on the fixed-route service independently, but not all trips. Not all paratransit riders require paratransit service for every trip.
At their simplest they may consist of a taxi or small bus that will run along a more or less defined route and then stop to pick up or discharge passengers on request.
Examples of individuals who would qualify under this category include those with intellectual, cognitive, vision, or psychiatric disabilities who cannot independently navigate the fixed route system for some or all of their trips. A person with a disability who requires an accessible vehicle when one is not available.
If the vehicle has not arrived by the end of your 20-minute ready-time window, you may call Paratransit at 214-515-PARA (7272) to check on your vehicle status. Riders can also check online to see where the vehicle is located and an estimated pick-up time at .DART.org/RidePara.
