Program Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) plays a vital role in improving the quality of day care and making it more affordable for many low-income families. CACFP serves nutritious meals and snacks to eligible participants enrolled for care at participating day care centers and day care homes.
A medical statement is not needed during this transition period. Breastmilk is allowed at any age in the CACFP. After this transition period, between the childs first and second birthday, whole milk must be served. Children 2 through 5 years old must be served unflavored -free (skim) or low- (1%) milk.
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults who are enrolled for care at participating child care centers, day care homes, and adult day care centers.
To be eligible for participation in CACFP, a sponsor must be a licensed or approved child care provider or a public or nonprofit private school which provides organized child care programs for school children during off-school hours.
