A Provisional Psychologist has completed at least 4-5 years of academic study and is in their final stages of undertaking practical experience before achieving full registration as a Psychologist.
How do I add a secondary supervisor? You can add a secondary supervisor by submitting a formal letter to AHPRA via the document portal. The letter will need to outline the name and registration number of your new secondary supervisor and it must be signed by your principal supervisor.
Psychologists must be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, and meet the Boards registration standards, in order to practise in Australia. All registration and renewal applications can be made online.
The Board requires all training programs leading to registration and endorsement of registration to be supervised by Board-approved supervisors. Board-approved supervisors are experienced psychologists who have undertaken Board-approved training in competency-based supervision.
Secondary supervision allows provisional psychologists to achieve a broader perspective on their clinical work. It enables interns to access a wider range of clinicians from different backgrounds, areas of expertise, therapeutic orientations and supervisory styles.
