If you are planning a garage or yard sale in the City of Chicago you must have a permit. Residents are limited to 3 sales per year, with the third sale being a moving sale. Each Garage sale is limited to 3 consecutive days between 9:00 a.m. and sunset. The permits are FREE and must be displayed during the sale period.
The permit is available to you for only $2.50 per day with a $1 credit card transaction fee. To purchase a permit online and host a garage sale, you will need to first set up an account (username and password) before filling out your permit information.
Garage Sales are permitted for a sale period not to exceed more than three consecutive days, excluding holidays, and not more than three garage sales shall be permitted for the same location in any calendar year.
Requirements You must obtain a permit before the start of the sale. Each residence is allowed four garage sales per calendar year per location. One garage sale per quarter. Permit Fee: $16 (non-refundable) You must provide a copy of the contract for estate sales.
