The Armidale School opened its doors to the first students in February 1894. It was established by private investors keen for northern NSW to have its own English-style boarding school for boys.
Founded in 1894 as the New England Proprietary School, The Armidale School has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for approximately 640 students, including 250 boarders from Years 6 to 12.
Our Ethos. TAS was founded as a boarding school in 1894 as an independent Anglican school and is the only regional based co-educational school within the membership of the Great Public Schools of NSW (AAGPS).
Newtown, Quakers and Educational Ethos Whilst founded as a school for Quaker children, it has been a multi-denominational school for some time. As a multi-denominational school, people of all religions and of no religion are welcome.
From 2016 it will be the first school in the associations 123-year history to become co-ed. The Armidale School will the first GPS school to go co-ed. The decision was taken after a survey of more than 4500 stakeholders and 23 meetings with alumni, staff, parents and students.
