What is the difference between DHP and housing benefit?

The Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) scheme is designed to provide additional financial support towards housing costs. A DHP can only be considered if the claimant is in receipt of either Housing Benefit (HB) or Universal Credit (UC) with the Housing Element included for support with a rental liability.

Who is eligible for a discretionary fund?

If you are in an extreme or exceptional situation or you are in a crisis you can apply for help from Discretionary Support. Depending on your personal circumstances, you could be offered either an interest-free loan or a grant that you would not have to pay back.

How much can you get with a DHP?

There is no limit to how much DHP you could receive, but we cannot pay more than your full eligible rent or Council Tax charge.
