Below it, the fraternitys public motto, In Hoc Signo Vinces is placed on a scroll. It can be translated as, In this sign, thou shalt conquer.

In 1855, Sigma Chi fraternity was founded at Miami University of Ohio. As one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious fraternities, Sigma Chis fundamental purpose is the cultivation, maintenance and accomplishment of the ideals of friendship, justice and learning within our membership.
