A Trustee is a person who acts as a custodian for the assets held within a Trust. He or she is responsible for managing and administering the finances of a Trust per the instructions given. Often, the person who creates the Trust is the Trustee until they can no longer fill the role due to incapacitation or death.
The Student Trustees primary duty and responsibility is to bring a student perspective to all Board of Trustees meetings for the District. The Student Trustee participates in all Board meetings to express a students perspective and may designate, for the record, his/her position prior to the Board vote.
A trustee contributes to the development program of the school, including strategic planning for development, financial support, and active involvement in annual and capital giving. Each trustee, not just the treasurer and finance committee, has fiduciary responsibility to the school for sound financial management.
Trustees advocate on behalf of the institution, helping to raise awareness of its mission, often by being involved in the solicitation of major donors and advocacy to key constituents. It is also important for the board to be sensitive to the environment in which the institution operates.
As effective members of the Board, trustees individually have a duty to: Serve as an advocate for higher education and for the University System, helping to raise the profile of each institution and the System as a whole. Ensure that the Mission of the institution is kept current and is aligned with public purposes.
