Leander Club, founded in 1818, is one of the oldest rowing clubs in the world, and the oldest non-academic club. It is based in Remenham in Berkshire, England and adjoins Henley-on-Thames.
They decided to start a club just for women - at a time when a that was a completely novel idea. These four San Diego women - Zulette Lamb, and sisters Lena, Agnes, and Caroline Polhamus - used the initials of their first names to form the acronym ZLAC. Today, ZLAC is the oldest womens rowing club in the world.
